Half of the central bank’s policy-making committee projected that interest rates will rise next year from their current near-zero level… The Institute for Economic Research, a think tank, cut its GDP growth forecast for Germany by 0.8 percentage points to 2.5% for 2021, owing to supply-chain disruptions and a slower-than-expected recovery from covid-19… Taiwan applied to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), nearly a week after China submitted its own application, local media reported… The UN Food Systems Summit, held on Thursday, has an ambitious goal for a one-day event—“trigger the transformation of food systems the world over”. It hopes to make the global food supply chain fairer, greener and healthier. Ambition is needed. Food prices have risen in 13 of the past 15 months, approaching the peak they reached in 2011. Rising costs have been driven in part by transitory factors, such as China buying up corn and soyabeans as feed to help replenish its stock of pigs after a swine-flu outbreak in 2018…
