Welcome to “ Something Mandarin”
I’m Jendy, your mandarin speaking friend now based in Taiwan. Since this is the first episode of my podcast, I would love to do a little self-introduction and talk about why I wanted to create this podcast. In the end, I will read you a Mandarin poem that I keep closely to my heart, so please stay tuned!

I’m a language enthusiast who’s born in Shanghai, China, and I’ve spent most of my life in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. I studied Pin-Yin and simplified Chinese in elementary school in Shanghai, and while afterwards, self-learned ㄅㄆㄇ and traditional Chinese when I came to Taiwan. I can speak Shanghainese and a bit of Taiwanese. Now I’m trying hard to learn Turkish and Spanish by doing language exchanges with my friends.

Ever since my college years, I have been doing language exchanges. After I graduating from the college, I was driven by my passion for language, and thus attended in an intensive training program in Mandarin Teaching.

While I’ve been teaching Mandarin and learning others’ native languages,. I’ve been constantly amazed by my international friends’ mandarin learning stories, and what initially brought them to Taiwan. Teaching Mandarin has given me fresh perspectives on my mother tongue, it’s truly a blessing being a mandarin teacher. My students have taught me numerous interesting ways to approach my own language. Being a mandarin teacher, I consciously pick my words, mind my everyday conversations, and pronunciations.

This podcast is going to be a teaching journal of mine, and some reflections on teaching Mandarin, I will also be reading you guys Mandarin books, sharing some Mandarin poems, and for the rest, new discoveries for my daily life.

It will also include lovely interviews with my dear friends. I aspire to create a comfortable platform for everyone to share their mandarin learning stories, and, hopefully, it will make you feel a little bit more encouraged and feel less alone along your own mandarin learning journey.

Starting this podcast is a beautiful moment for me. I hope my voice can keep you company whenever you need it.

Something Mandarin

Now I would love to read a mandarin sonnet written by Feng2 Zhi4.

是某某城上的一片濃霧;

Thanks for listening to Something Mandarin., I hope you’ve enjoyed our time together.
I’m Jendy, and I will see you real soon!.
