Do you remember the Iran hostage crisis, from 1979 to 1981? It was an event in which Iranian protestors seized 66 American citizens at the U.S. embassy in Tehran and held them hostage for 444 days. The crisis took place during the chaotic aftermath of the Iranian Revolution which resulted in the overthrow of the Pahlavi monarchy. The crisis, as will be discussed in this podcast episode, had dramatic effects on domestic politics in the United States, particularly the 1980 presidential election, and also served as the spark to ignite the reform of special operations within the United States military.
