5. The Sharp Knife of Truth: Living and Teaching a Life of Simplicity and Self-Reliance by David Nolan: This is a great read with a distinct and completely un-traditional approach to the family. It may be considered a "counter culture" book, but it's actually not a specific one. It's a great read for anyone who wants to stop the rat race and take the family in a different direction. Many people look at medical problems as illnesses, when in reality they are symptoms of one of many smaller diseases. One reason this is so is that many tend to ignore the environment in which each of us lives. On a more personal note, my father-in-law's cancer, for example, is a direct result of him smoking cigarettes since he was a teenager (just one more reason to quit). Other environmental factors that cause serious diseases include: stress, toxic chemicals (as a result of our exposure to said chemicals, as well as their ingestion through our food, water, and air), BK virus (a possible result of eating undercooked meats), Toxin- producing fungus, and Pesticides (although some may argue that exposure to said chemicals is the result of their use as pesticides). This leads me to believe that the things we do can also become a bigger part of our lives, our health problems, and even our dreams if they are not approached with the diligence that they deserve. Many people forget to wash their hands before they eat (if you can believe that). Never forget to wash your hands before you eat. Never forget to wash your hands before you go to the bathroom. Never forget to wash your hands before you sleep. Never forget to wash your hands after you sneeze. Never forget to wash your hands before you touch your face. There's a reason why we have TitusO.Net . There are three billion microbes living on our skin. Never forget to wash your hands. Wash the bacterium off before you eat. Wash the bacterium off before you sleep. Wash the bacterium off before you touch your face. Wash the bacterium off before you sneeze. Wash the bacterium off before you work, then wash the bacterium off before you use the washroom. Wash the bacterium off before you touch your eyes. Wash the bacterium off before you kiss. Wash the bacterium off before you hug, then wash the bacterium off before you touch your nose. Wash the bacterium off before you use the internet. Wash the bacterium off before you read about, then wash the bacterium off before you think about, then wash the bacterium off before you decide to get, then wash the bacterium off before you buy, then wash the bacterium off before you take the medication, then wash the bacterium off before you take the hot showers, then wash the bacterium off before you drink the medication. Wash the bacterium off before you breathe. Wash the bacterium off before you talk, then wash the bacterium off before you laugh, then wash the bacterium off before you think. Wash the bacterium off before you pay the bill. Wash the bacterium off before you look, then wash the bacterium off before you lift, then wash the bacterium off before you sit. Wash the bacterium off before you think. Wash the bacterium off before you print, then wash the bacterium off before you work.
