17th February 2014 The Scottish Open 2014/15 will be a roadshow event. This will be a 4-day tournament, the first day matches being played in Glasgow, the second day in Stirling and the final day match in Edinburgh. Each day will have four groups of seven players. All matches are being arranged to be played in the early evening to maximise the number of matches that can be played. Coaching will take place each evening in London which will be accessible to all players. The players will find their own transport to their matches. A £1,200 pot put by the promoter will be shared among the six players who take home prizes. The tournament will be staged in a variety of snooker venues. There will be four prize tables for matches, ten for qualification and six for the final. The competitors will wear their club colours, this is part of the club spirit which is very important to the promoter.Having his best match in years, snooker player Ian Preece was eliminated in the first round of the Scottish Open 2014/15. Out of the frame, Preece had the following to say: ‘As a young man I had some time off from snooker, spending the time working. Through this time I discovered the possibilities offered by the motor cycle, which was my first love. After 18 months I bought a Suzuki 250cc, my first bike, and had another year off. Then in the early 1990s I picked up snooker again at the age of 28. Up until 2010 I had been able to find a place to practise at Port Glasgow. I have been lucky enough to get two of my bikes back but I just cannot find a suitable space. This has been most frustrating. With cycling, there were always plenty of tracks around. After taking more time out I have been desperately searching for somewhere to practise, and to run up and down some stairs. I am now too old and slow and that is a shame. I could use a couple of 100 yards of indoor space with a slope to a small cupboard, good lighting, maybe another cupboard nearby and some wood for the walls.
