".") end end przemysław hosiński przemysław hosiński (born 3 january 1976) is a polish modern pentathlete. he competed at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 summer olympics. references category:1976 births category:living people category:polish male modern pentathletes category:olympic modern pentathletes of poland category:modern pentathletes at the 1996 summer olympics category:modern pentathletes at the 2000 summer olympics category:modern pentathletes at the 2004 summer olympics category:sportspeople from łódźi got a couple emails recently from frustrated cyclists. i'm happy to say that the problem is simple, and all on my end: the traffic comes to a complete stop at the most dangerous intersection in paris for cyclists and pedestrians; and you can't continue through it. it's fine for cars to slow down to let cars and lorries safely turn right into the rue de courcelles, but i could never figure out why the street is blocked to all non-traffic at the junction with the rue de la gaîté. you can see it from google streetview, which i've included below. get in the door at the top of the photo. the entrance to the rue de la gaîté has a giant sign marked "22" on it, and the street immediately before the sign has a stop sign in it. no traffic goes into this street at all. so we get cars coming into paris from the town of bobigny (i.e. the other side of the seine river from paris), and they turn right into the spot where they can't go anywhere. their trunks are open, their lorries are in sight, yet they turn right in front of the cyclists and pedestrians! i know this intersection is listed in google maps as a "no entry" stop, but that designation is easily bypassed. i'd like to see that changed. i originally thought the problem was with boulevard voltaire, but that is just a stretch of road that uses the same street as gaîté. gaîté is also a relatively minor street - it's not like the grand place where you need a good block to turn right - and it's not as busy as blvd voltaire. so it's not entirely relevant. but it demonstrates that this intersection is meant to be the last chance for cars to turn right into paris.
