back to gee, one of the keyscape’s great pleasures is its rich, organic sense of scale, which is inspired by vintage mellotron recordings. the sound of the instrument is produced by a timbre timbre that has a dramatic quality that’s hard to describe. unlike other harps, keyscapes timbre can seem to change size and pitch in harmony with the note played, creating a sound that can fill a huge proportion of the canvas without seeming to sound constricting.”so much can be achieved with keyscapes distinctive instruments, so it’s a shame that keyscapes sampled sources aren’t available. the fact that sample sets aren’t usually included with keyscapes makes the lack of this feature even more glaring. it’s not as if keyscapes only consist of one or two instruments, as there are more than 60 in this soft pack and they are all of excellent quality. i would have liked to have heard a mandolin, to give the instrument a flavour of other musical cultures, and a string arpeggiator, to show just how versatile these instruments can be. but the first thing you’ll notice about keyscapes eclectic sample collection is the diversity of timbre and instruments on offer. the harp, marimba, guitars, organs, pianos, and percussion blends impressively to bring a sense of authenticity to this mammoth collection of samples. but keyscape has not been daunted by the task of highlighting the character of the instruments sampled - they have created a set of instruments in all three major tonal families; with keyscapes melodians also classed under the harmonic family.notable is that keyscape doesnt seem to share patches that are otherwise identical. in its demo video below, keyscape plays a patch that could be from any earlier version, but rather a patch from another instrument. granted, this may be just a glitch, but i find it suspicious.
