Which, of course, is a good thing. When science, technology, and philosophy collide in the form of the knowledge and wisdom of mushroom-people, it only makes sense that their body of wisdom includes some kind of crack control, and that they often use their knowledge to wreak havoc on others. (But it is nice to know they have it.) The technological side of the game is more or less relegated to the simple task of controlling the ants' vehicles; you can throw them at enemies or trap them in mechanical traps, for example. However, the mushroom-people are more than capable of flying through the air in a bit of a huff, touching the objects they want and then rolling rapidly away from the object they touched for ten seconds. They also have a knowledge of which plant will grow into what shape. Other plants have no such knowledge, but they will grow into whatever you place them in, so you can always experiment.Analysis: The level design is a bit too simplistic, in that there are no true goals or stages that you must pass through; you simply wander from place to place, killing zombies, plucking fruit from the tree and planting seeds, and hoping for the best. The game would have been improved by having had a few key goals, such as collecting a certain number of fruits and having a set number of seeds planted when you finish the level. You have no way of measuring your success, and if you fail to finish a level, you're only given a limited number of tries before your game ends. Without a substantial goal, the game never feels worthwhile or engaging.Analysis: Pete Murphy always knew he wanted to be a game developer, and my hat is off to him for sticking with it, not only through the winding, trying road of college, but after nearly a decade as a professional. Though Tigger's Folly may not be the most enjoyable game you've ever played, it is still fresh and enjoyable thanks to Murphy's brilliant level design and the colorful personality of his character, who is an endearing, funny addition to the extremely peculiar world of his game. Tigger's Folly has mechanics that will drive you mad, and at times it will be difficult to reconcile, but the odd sense of control over your own world is something that won't disappear any time soon, as Murphy and his team have created a unique, memorable playground. Ouch. Ouch! [adult swim] has made an appearance in your iTunes store!
