Visual xDE (2016) requires the new release of Vivado, with support for Visual xDE 2016, more than is possible with 2014. That release does not yet have support for get_param -ip 1.2.3.4 to retrieve the IP address used. If for some reason you need to use an older version of Vivado, you can manually set the IP address using the param_set command. For instance, start an IP view, right click on the name in the tree, choose param_set, click on the "Open Command Window Here" button, then navigate to the Vivado installation directory and type the command param_set -ip 1.2.3.4 I forgot to mention, it is not a one company make FPGA world, large and small companies use Xilinx, Altera and Lattice in pretty much all ways available. I dont think Intel has very much trouble supplying semiconductor resources to smaller players or going in competition with the very largest semiconductor companies. I can't say without leaking my little secret as to where Xilinx sees innovation in the future. I do know that they keep most of the tricks up their sleeve as well as a very highly skilled workforce and a very stable and mostly kind community. Vivado is a total bastard. The type of place I do my most work for is on the design of select components from IP such as core or DSP functions. Some might say its only for small components or limited to DSP as opposed to IP cores, this is partly true. You can still do lots in DSP for big designs and I personally like doing most of it. I will be doing more of this from Vivado. I see this as a hobby. It's a fun game to see the market right now, especially with the class of products that are available. I enjoy designing and improving and engaging my skills. I feel that most of the time Xilinx cuts corners and doesnt put resources into maintaining the best tool chain for it's products. This means that most of the time I'm better off designing myself and maybe using a different FPGA fabric company such as Cube, AMS or Redefine. It is not always better to go open source. If I were an innovative company, I would want to be able to guarantee a time of arrival to market and the quality of my offering. If this is the case and I am a company Xilinx is likely is not my product fabric of choice.
