For the question of when to use analogue and when to use digital, we have a novel hypothesis that when we are looking at the dynamics of neurons, we need both for the most sensitive detection. When we look at the plasticity of neurons, the understanding of the mechanisms is also important. We need good analogue coding for understanding the mechanisms. Digital coding at low frequency but analogue coding at high frequency should be more sensitive. This digital coding allows for control of timing of activity, so it is very useful for spike-timing dependent plasticity studies.Previous studies reported either the lateral or medial part of the CA3 receives input from the mossy fibers ( Eichenbaum et al. 1998 ). This difference in the location of the mossy fibers input may cause lateral and medial part of the CA3 to respond differently ( Cahoy et al. 2000 ; Lee et al. 2003 ). To investigate this, we performed both the extracellular and whole cell recordings of lateral and medial CA3 pyramidal cells. We found that both the lateral and medial neurons had different response to the conditioning synaptic stimulation. The response amplitude, latency and kinetics of paired-pulse depression were different in the two groups.This book provides concept of digital design and various topics related to electronics and communication engineering.
