after 4 months of this firmware update problem and a 2nd firmware update on the device by hp it worked for me. on a dell 2720 and it was the printer model. however, i followed all the steps below with a samsung c1860fw.first when i did reset on the early firmware, i noticed that many of the menu options and functions were missing but other than that it was a simple procedure for my samsung c1860 fw. i simply made sure the printer was off before doing the reset. same for the 2nd firmware. i simply turned it off completely and unplugged it. then i did an internet search for batteries. i found that a brand new battery had to be installed with the 2nd firmware. i did this. plugged it in, turned it on, and it worked! i had reset using the function keys (fn). i have used these keys for a few years and they worked no problem. so i did the same procedure for the 2nd firmware update. i turned it off, unplugged it. turned it back on, and it worked.i did have some slight problem with the 2nd firmware. first, it totally removed the menu from the printer's top panel. the printer's menu works well again as i see it now. the printer's menu button is located at the bottom of the touch screen interface with a slider underneath to scroll through the menu. the menu is clearly visible because it changes color as you slide the screen. another issue i had is with the paper tray icon. it was on a separate button on the touch screen so it was not easy to reach. if you need to disable this, just push the touch screen button and then on the same screen, you can push and hold the "paper" button and it will disable the paper tray icon.
