the intergovernmental panel on climate change (ipcc) (2019) 411 initiated the ipcc special report on the ocean and cryosphere in a changing climate (sroc) (intergovernmental panel on climate change, 2019) 412 to: ‘‘assess impacts of the combined effects of climate change and of human activities on the ocean and cryosphere, identify their scientific and socio-economic potential, and project the implications for natural resources, food security, ecosystems, human well-being and survival.’’ the report provides projections and identification of key uncertainties for a range of regions and sectors. it provides a preliminary quantification of regional and global ocean changes, using a combination of processes and analyses.in summary, sea level rise poses greater risks to human health than sea level rise does, which in turn poses greater risks to human health than sea level rise plus glacier melt, which in turn poses greater risks than sea level rise plus glacier melt plus ocean warming.projected changes in river basins globally are likely to have important effects on human health and other societal functions in the 21st century. these effects are likely to be substantial for most basins in northern and western temperate regions, but, depending on the basin, may vary in relative importance. for most basins in the tropics, changes are likely to be less important than for temperate basins. overall, the analysis concludes that climate change is likely to have significant consequences for human health globally.
