the vantage is supplied with a usb cable to allow firmware upgrades. if the unit remains connected to a computer for the upgrade, it will stay attached to the computer for the time of the upgrade. if the unit loses connection with the computer, it is necessary to reconnect it to the computer to get the upgrade complete.the vantage pro should not be updated with v800 software or firmware. the two types of watch software use separate logging and memory locations and cannot be used simultaneously. if you want to experiment with this, download the vantage pro 2 software here and try it on a unit to avoid damaging it, and do not forget to delete it.note that the vantage pro 2 does not have any way to synchronise gps/accelerometer/magnetometer readings with your base unit. this was because the original vantage only has one gps antenna, and the v800 has a gps and an accelerometer sensor. when you plug your v800 into the vantage pro 2, it will store the gps/accelerometer data as an activity, but the movement of your wrist is not matched to that data. however, this data can be accessed on the v800 so you can analyse your movements at rest and when youre exercising, comparing them to the gps data on your v800.the only problem with this watch is that there aren't as many stores with a tecno as polar as on the v800, but overall i really like the v2 a lot. the overall feature of the watch and the different features such as the pps, heart rate zones, and recording mode are quite good, and the thing that really make me decide to buy it is the ability to use your iphone as a hrm. as a user i also like that when you open the watch, it will have its current time set. the battery life is also quite good compared to most of the other wrist hrm-i watches, which can last only for about 30 mins at most in regular condition and with the power saving mode enabled. the v2 can last a full day on a single charge and you don't have to worry about it being drained because the power is fully recharged before the battery dies completely. when i bought this watch, it was not possible to set the time in the watch from the iphone before it was released, but after using the watch for a long period of time (about 6 months) it is now possible to set the time in the watch from the iphone, and this is something that i would like. the only thing that i don't like about the watch is that the screen sometimes blur even when the brightness is not so high. although i do like the watch itself and feel that this is a high-quality watch, i still think that the price is a bit too much for this watch. the reason why i feel this way is because you can get a watch that is about 1/3 the price and that provides most of the features that the v2 does. i also think that the fact that it looks more like a stylish watch instead of a sports watch doesn't help the case either. if i still want to get a watch that has all the functions that the v2 has in a higher quality watch, i would prefer to go for a garmin forerunner (eg. fr220 or fr245) than the vantage v2, as they are just slightly better watches in many aspects. i think that this watch will be a very good seller for polar in the short term. you can get a good deal on amazon, but i bought mine from my local watch store. if you have any questions about this watch, feel free to contact me.
