if you want to take things more seriously then you can also take on a series of quests, be they an individual quest or part of an ongoing quest chain, and complete a certain number of these to gain new equipment or experience for your characters. you can play either as one of three characters with different attack strategies and movement tactics, and whichever character you want to use is going to determine the difficulty of your game. the choices are air strike 3d (a tank), aegis (heavily armoured), or pandemic (using mobile suit-like weapon systems to track enemies and deal with them). further along the path are three different battle verse modes, along with a training mode and a survival mode that you can play when the game is offline. the battle verse modes give you access to a series of different maps that allow you to play in quick game sessions against friends or foes, and are a great way to practise your tactics without having to mess around with the long-winded rpg side of the game. there are various difficulties in the game, which determines how much health and ammunition youre given, as well as how close you can get to enemies before being destroyed. these range from easy to insane, and the difficulty is always reflected in the type of enemies that appear. there are a variety of quests that you can choose to start, and you can only do them at certain points in the game, but the majority of the quest chains are achievable throughout the course of play if you work at it. the characters can all be levelled up as you play, but the experience is only gained when you visit the armoury and craft new items of varying rarity, and each item also comes with a level requirement.
