full text available the paper deals with the research on the results of the application of energy-efficient technologies in the field of building energy retrofit. it is important to note that energy-efficient technologies are designed to work with optimum efficiency, but in practice they can work in a wide range of conditions, including low power consumption and optimal energy efficiency. the authors of the paper have applied energy-efficient technologies and achieved energy savings of up to 20%, but the result of the retrofit was not as expected. the test results showed that the energy efficiency of the building was not increased at all and it could be due to the fact that the retrofit measures have not been applied optimally. the authors discuss the reasons of the energy-efficient technologies' application failures, the possible ways of the solutions and suggest that the energy-efficient technologies should be applied in a wider range of conditions and with a different level of energy efficiency.full text available this article is a part of the research project carried out at the faculty of engineering, university of belgrade, serbia and focused on the development of guidelines for the protection of buildings and their contents from the impact of electromagnetic fields (emf. the project was initially funded by the ministry of science, education and sport (republic of serbia and took place from september 2010 to november 2011. after the first stage, the project was continued by the ministry of science, education and sport and the research institute for nuclear safety (rins. the present article describes the research work carried out at rins and the results achieved in the field of the assessment of the state of buildings and other structures exposed to the external electromagnetic field (emf for the protection of the population and the environment. the aim of the research was to determine the significance of emf in the development of the diseases in the population and to identify the health hazards for the population exposed to emf. the research was completed by the project group of rins in cooperation with the main partners in the field of emf, including the european commission, the european network on emf health (enemf, the european commission for the protection of the environment and natural resources (ec, the competent commission for the protection of humans and consumer protection (cpcp, the european committee for electromagnetic compatibility (cemc, the european commission for the energy regulation (erc, the association of european academies of sciences, engineering and humanities (allea, the international commission on non-ionizing radiation protection (icnirp, the european network on emf health (enemf, the european committee for electromagnetic compatibility (cemc, the international commission on non-ionizing radiation protection (icnirp, the ministry of health of the republic of serbia and the ministry of science, education and sport of the republic of serbia. the project group has concluded that the study of the potential impact of emf for the population is important, and that there is a clear need for a scientific approach in this field. the methodology of the project was based on the application of the concept of dose, including the mathematical model of the dose, calculation of the reference level, the evaluation of the impact of emf on the health of the population, the analysis of the general public awareness of the phenomenon, and the analysis of the literature on the subject.
