Having lived in Los Angeles for many years, Kate moved back to Ireland and this in-depth sound library was conceived. Kate and her team took time to record natural and looping samples of percussive instruments and drums, recording the samples with high quality audio into Sibelius and making sure that they were created from the perspective of the composer. In addition, Kate took the time to provide sound banks of chord progressions, so you can select a chord and hear it set to the proper tempo, to make sure the sound elements that you are paying for are the right elements. The selection of drums is wide ranging, but the focus is mainly on the metal drum sets, as metal was the most often used instrument in the 4/4 time frame. Of course, the focus of this library is not only the metal drums, but the fact that these instruments were recorded in situ and can be used like a virtual percussion section. The kits come with a separate library that allows for you to be able to use the individually recorded parts, in order to improvise or recreate percussion sections. The great part of this library is that the sound files are extremely loopable, so you will find it useful when it comes to creating melodies, with an unlimited number of parts, and without having to split it up into short phrases. Composers take for granted the idea of having parts for complex scoring. Not so in Sibelius. The practice of scoring musical parts has always been based on the idea of modular composition, with the individual parts as small building blocks that the composer puts together. It’s very easy to conceive of a musical idea in one’s head and in order to translate it into a musical score, you have to break it down into small units.
