Wow this has some extreme responses! I think that what youre saying is true Grahams, but I also feel that there are other areas where cracked plugins dont make sense. Lets say you have two plugins, A and B, and they do the same function. A costs $200 and then you realise that youve used it a LOT, so you buy B for $80 less than A, but you still have a lot of time left on A. So, because youve used it a lot you use it every day, so maybe on average the cost of B is around $150 a month for most people. So, youve used two months of A but not B, thats $300 worth of time wasted, because B is less, and less because A is costing $150 a month or a $500 a year (worst case scenario). So, the more plugins you buy for a lower price per plugin, the more time youll spend on it and earn less out of it. In my opinion the plugins should be taxed. Lets say a person buys 10 plugins for $250 a piece, thats $2500, but in terms of money, they will earn just as much as someone who doesnt buy at all. The difference is that the person that doesnt buy gets more time from their money earned, and the person that buys gets less time. But, a lot of people will not buy the less expensive plugins.I dont think that is a widely known fact, to be honest. However I do think that when someone who wishes to use something that requires a paywall says its cracked, people do tend to take offense. I get it, it was a simple word with some power behind it, you could then even say it was a slander or a libel, but to call its use unethical or illegal is a far better description.I wouldnt dare insult the intelligence of any music-industry guru, but I think your arguments are weak and just plain arrogant. I think most engineers who are into recording and mixing and mastering are fully aware of the practices of buying software illegally. Ive been doing it for almost 30 years (and before that, using good old emulation) and Ive also used several cracks that actually had full support and functionality. I also use softwares from the same company (Audio-Ease, Waves, etc) that you do, to make me royalties on their software.
