fyi: the complete 3-4-5-6 man tablebases are ~1.2t large, so 356gigs is a bit over 1/4 of the data, but includes the most common endings. i suppose the other 75% of the data is floating out in cyberspace someplace. lol. used to be hosted an an ftp server by the author/programmer, but eventually the files got too large, and torrent is the only way to get them now, as far as i know. they stopped hosting the files on the ftp server years ago.- it requires a bit of practice to use effectively, and it also requires a bit of patience. as a first time user, you will need to get used to reading the tablebases, and learn what to do when the tablebases has a range of moves that offers an unclear (or even impossible) solution. although you will still be able to create tablebases, you may need to consult with someone more experienced to find the solution. in august 2016, the project moved the whole collection to google drive. today the collection has about 2.2 tb, which is enough space for the whole collection of tablebases up to 7-man. the collection also has a mirror on github. tablebases up to 6 men provide a useful resource for solving problems in chess. tablebases have been used by world-class players including vladimir kramnik, hikaru nakamura, garry kasparov, anna ushenina, nigel short, alexander morozevich, maxime vachier-lagrave, le quang liem, ian nepomniachtchi, and others. tablebases are a rich source of new problems. problems that have been constructed by the highest-rated players in the world have been used to construct tablebases. tablebases have been used to solve problem databases such as those provided by the famous "cambridge puzzles" books.
