‘Beijing Rules’ Author: Tackling Chinese Coercion ft. Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian

In this episode of Global Voices on Taiwan, Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian, author of ‘Beijing Rules: How China Weaponized Its Economy to Confront the World,’ one of the 2023 Financial Times and Schroders Best Business Books, shares with hosts, Vincent Chao, director of the DPP’s International Affairs Department and media producer Rath Wang, how countries around the world can best counter Chinese coercion.

Allen-Ebrahimian goes into detail on why she refers to Taiwan as ‘ground zero’ for Chinese influence operations. She shares her insights from decades-long research and investigative reporting on how countries can come together to dispel disinformation, misinformation, and combat Chinese malign activities in the region. Allen-Ebrahimian also describes how she sees Taiwanese democracy and efforts the island nation is taking to refine its young and vibrant democracy.
