As customary during the interlude between seasons, Epic Games initiated routine maintenance for Fortnite on Friday, aiming to enhance the gaming experience with fresh content for eager fans. Typically, this downtime lasts for a few hours. However, Epic encountered an unexpected hurdle, necessitating a delay in the commencement of Chapter 5 Season 2.

In a statement from the Fortnite Status X account, Epic Games addressed the issue: "Hey everyone, we encountered an unexpected issue during our maintenance and we need to extend downtime at least 8 additional hours. We apologize for making everyone wait longer than usual to drop into Chapter 5 Season 2 of Battle Royale. The team is working through this as quickly as possible, and we’ll provide another update when we have more info." The announcement, made at 9:14 AM ET, implies that Fortnite's downtime is likely to persist until at least 5 PM.

The postponement is unfortunate given the anticipation surrounding the new season, which promises an intriguing theme. Dubbed "Myths and Mortals," the season revolves around Greek mythology. Alongside the opportunity to acquire skins resembling legendary figures such as Aphrodite, Medusa, and Poseidon through the battle pass, players can harness mythical abilities like Zeus' lightning bolts and the Wings of Icarus. Epic Games has also introduced captivating new locations to the island, including Mount Olympus and Hades' Underworld. Notably, a haunting rendition of the River Styx, guarded by Cerberus, leads to the latter area.
