We welcome you to our podcast program, 愛的凱歌 Adore Him. Today, we are going to share with you a hymn titled "It Is Well with My Soul," written by Horatio G. Spafford and composed by Philip P. Bliss.
Spafford was born in New York and lived in Chicago, where he was a well-known lawyer. In 1871, the Great Chicago Fire caused him to lose his properties. At the same time, his 4-year-old son died from scarlet fever. To regroup and take some time away, he planned a trip to Europe with his wife and four daughters. He sent his family on a ship voyage across the Atlantic while he was delayed by urgent business, planning to meet them as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, several days later, the steamship named Ville du Harve, which his family took, collided with the British three-masted iron clipper, Loch Earn, and sank in 12 minutes with the loss of 226 lives. Spafford's wife survived the collision and sent him a telegram with the first lines: "Saved alone. What shall I do?"
Spafford then headed out on another ship to meet his wife. In the mid of the Atlantic, the captain called him to the bridge and said, "I believe that we are now passing the place where the ship was wrecked." That night, Spafford wrote down the words to "It Is Well with My Soul." (1)

大家或多或少應該有所感觸：「生命中有許多不可預期的事。」我們的生活有時充滿甘甜、喜樂，有時充滿苦澀、哀傷；抑或心靈時而平靜安穩，時而惶惶不安。當生命中不可預期的事情隨之而來時，世上一切的夢想、積累的財產、自恃的才幹、智慧或者依賴的人事物等等，都可以瞬間化為虛有。面對這樣的景況，特別是關乎我們的生命、心靈？我們該如何是好呢？今天要與大家分享的聖詩《我心靈得安寧》(“It Is Well with My Soul”)詞曲的背後故事，也許可以給我們一些啟發。
《我心靈得安寧》詩詞作者為斯帕福(Horatio G. Spafford, 1828-1888)，出生於紐約，居住芝加哥，在當地是位著名的律師，也是房地產投資人。1871年，因一場著名的芝加哥大火(Great Chicago Fire)，他的投資與積累的財富受到嚴重損害。在這不久前，四歲的兒子也因猩紅熱(Scarlet Fever)過世。接連的事件，加上考慮到妻子健康狀態，他決定帶著全家到歐洲度假。出發前夕，必須臨時處理業務，改為妻子和四個女兒先行出發，斯帕福隨後再和家人會合。
當時法國最豪華的定期郵輪維利號(Ville du Havre)於1873年11月15日從紐約啟程返往歐洲。斯帕福的太太和四個女兒搭乘這艘郵輪。11月22日凌晨兩點，這艘郵輪和英國的一艘鐵殼船羅強號(Lochearn)相撞。307名旅客全部落海，226人喪命，其中包含斯帕福的四個女兒。他的太太在獲救、抵達英國後，發電報給先生，開頭說道：「只有一人獲救。我該怎麼辦？」 （附註1）
接獲消息，斯帕福趕緊搭船到英國與妻子會合。航行在大西洋的途中，船長請他到船橋並告訴他：「我相信我們已經通過維利號沉船的海域。」在那時刻，安慰與盼望充滿斯帕福的心靈，當晚在大西洋上，寫下了《我心靈得安寧》的詩詞。接下來那週，他寫下一段話告訴友人：「星期四經過了沉船的地點…我並沒有想到我的孩子在那海底。他們現在是安全、被保抱的親愛羔羊。不久的將來，在那處，我們也會和她們在一起。此時，實在感謝神，因祂對我們和我們所擁有的，施予祂的愛與憐憫，使我們得以侍奉、讚美祂。活著的年日，我要繼續讚美祂。但願我們每個人起來，放下一切，跟隨祂。」（附註2）
在《我心靈得安寧》的開頭，斯帕福寫道：「有時享受平安，如同江河平穩，有時遇到悲傷如同海浪滾」，緊接著他說：「無論處在任何景況」，「我心得安寧，得安寧」。在第二、第三節歌詞中，斯帕福進一步提到，無論是來自撒旦的攻擊，或者是我們生命中一切的罪，因著羔羊耶穌犧牲生命，流寶血，救贖了我們，所以不需要驚惶害怕，「我心得安寧，得安寧 (It is well, it is well with my soul.)。」在最後第四節，他更表達對主耶穌快快再來的渴望與盼望。當那日到來時，在主前，雲彩捲起，號角聲響起，而他依然能告白：我心得安寧，得安寧。
大部分的詩歌本中，《我心靈得安寧》只列出三節歌詞，我將完整四節詩詞放在資訊欄中。現在，我們一同來聆聽由斯帕福(Horatio G. Spafford)寫的詩詞，貝利斯(Philip P. Bliss, 1838-1876)譜曲的《我心靈得安寧》這首聖詩。（附註3, 4）盼望我們聆聽這首聖詩時，一面讀著這首聖詩的詩詞，一面思想或者默想我們與神的關係。願神的慈愛與憐憫臨到我們眾人，透過這首聖詩，使我們能如同使徒保羅在聖經腓立比書4:12的確信與平安喜樂，告白：「我知道怎樣處卑賤，也知道怎樣處豐富；或飽足，或飢餓；或有餘，或缺乏，隨事隨在，我都得了秘訣。」並且與歷代眾聖徒一同頌讚：「我心得安寧，得安寧」(It is well, it is well with my soul.)。
